Visually Cultural DesignWorks
Applying over 35+ years of graphic design experience to product design, Carlos (Using his complete family Spanish name, Carlos Sosa Pagan) shares his interpretations of Latin American cultural imagery—including pre-Colombian tribal petroglyphs, ornamental pottery symbols, traditional ephemera and contemporary immigrant experiences— in his current collection of unique, multi-media art.

Essentially, these pieces are layered (1/8”, 1/4”and 1/2” wood, acrcylic, metal, paper, styrene (plastic), producing an unusual feeling of depth. Sometimes working with mirrors, these layers have even more of a 3D effect as you look deeper into each piece and discover hidden colors, writing and symbols. Sizes currently range from 8”x8” to 12”x 12” to 24”x24” to even 36”x 36.” For more information on availability and pricing, please contact me directly via FB, messenger, or email. Thanks for your interest!

Preview of the Work: Fall 2021

Inspired by the Mexican celebration, Día de Muertos, this piece features a stylized calavera (similar to a sugar skull) layered over an image reminiscent of papel picadi. Available at 20"x20," and 36"x36." Contact me for details on how to commision one for your casa's mantle.
As I am currently an Indiana resident, I have come up with a design that blends the papel picado look with the elements of the Indiana state flag. I've designed a work (24"x24") that I call, "Los Júziers"—pronounced "HOOSIERS."
Puerto Rican inspired, this work—a stylized design of a Petroglyph of the indigenous TAINOs represents el Yúnque, the Island's spectacular rainforest
Out of respect for my Jewish friends during their Fall celebrations, I introduce my chai design. Shalom! L'chaim! 9"x9" laser-carved, framed.
More Homage to el México: The circle of life en el día de Muertos...
Keeping with Day of the Dead traditions, I wanted to share a contemporary approach with my customers. Sometimes, I employ metallic texture to the pieces, and this time I introduced aluminum tiles. The orange color (connected to the DOD marigold tradition) will serve to "warm" it up. It seems to add a contemporary feel that might work with say... your stainless steel fridge/stove...
